Monitoring & Maintenance

The Nashville Dam monitoring workgroup includes volunteer representatives from the Barry Conservation District, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Michigan State University, Grand Valley State University, the Thornapple River Watershed Council and several citizen volunteers. Preconstruction monitoring activities included a geomorphic analysis of the river channel, fish community assessment, benthic macroinvertebrate community assessment, riparian vegetation assessment, and water quality monitoring. Post removal monitoring will repeat these assessments to evaluate the outcome of the project. Research conducted during the course of the project will also provide current and much needed data on the Thornapple River Watershed.
