River Cleanup (Resources)

The San Diego River Park Foundation

Working in conjunction with the San Diego River Park Foundation, IMRivers developed an interactive map to monitor waste disposal and pollution in and along the banks of the San Diego River in California. The interactive map is used as a tool to not only record the trash in the area, but also as a platform to promote community involvement and activism in keeping the river clean. Using this technology, the community and the San Diego River Park Foundation continue to track and monitor pollution in the San Diego River. The interactive map is a visual tool for documentation as well as a method for developing and implementing future sustainable policies and practices for keeping the San Diego River clean. Using the interactive map, the Foundation and community members can identify areas with higher than average trash and waste accumulation, allowing a concentration on these areas when cleaning up the river as well as look into the root causes of trash accumulation.
